Term 3 3rd and 4th Classes
This month we are focusing on time.
The children in 3rd and 4th classes will be enabled to read time in five minute intervals.
Give your child plenty of opportunities to tell the time.
Buy them a watch and frequently ask them the time.
Practise counting in 5’s.
Give them a chance to practise on an analogue and digital clock.
Draw clock faces and ask them to fill in the time.
There are 60 seconds in a minute.
There are 60 minutes in one hour.
There are 24 hours in a day.
There are 7 days in a week.
There are 14 days in a fortnight.
There are 365 days in a year.

Valentine’s day February 14th.
Christmas day 25th December.
30 days has September, April, June and November. All the rest have 31 except February on its own has 28 and 29 in a leap year.
This month we are focusing on number sentences. This means that the children will be learning how to translate a word problem into a mathematicla sentence.
Tom had seven books. He bought three more. How many has he now?
Children will also be focusing on filling in the blanks in the number sentences.
10+ ? = 20
There are two ways of doing this. One is counting on from 10 until you reach 20 and the other way is to subtract 10 from 20.
The children will be exploring different approaches to solving this problem.
